Dubai Mallathon sets Guinness World Record

September 3, 2025

The Dubai Mallathon has ended with a Guinness World Record for the most runners in a mall run event. The month-long fitness campaign turned malls into indoor tracks, drawing more than 40,000 participants. It confirmed Dubai’s growing role as a global hub for community sports.

The finale took place on September 1, 2025, at Dubai Hills Mall. Backed by H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Deputy Prime Minister, the last event gathered 1,392 runners. This turnout secured the official record and capped a historic month.

Over 31 days, runners logged more than 120 million steps. Tracks were available in nine malls, including The Dubai Mall, Mall of the Emirates, Dubai Marina Mall, City Centre Deira, and Festival Plaza. Open daily from 7:00 am to 10:00 am, the routes provided safe, air-conditioned spaces for fitness enthusiasts.

Building on this success, the Dubai Sports Council confirmed the Mallathon will return in 2026 as an annual event. It will run from June 15 to September 15 across multiple malls. This longer format aims to expand access and attract even more participants. Moreover, it reflects Sheikh Hamdan’s vision of making fitness part of everyday life.

Youth involvement proved essential. Dr. Sultan Al Neyadi, Minister of State for Youth Affairs, praised the strong participation of young people. He stressed that sport gives them inspiration, self-expression, and a positive outlet for energy. In addition, youth councils from Abu Dhabi, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah, Umm Al Quwain, and the Edge Group joined the effort, ensuring nationwide support.

The Mallathon also aligned with broader national strategies, including the ‘Year of Community’, Dubai Social Agenda 33, and the Dubai Quality of Life Strategy 2033. More than a dozen government entities participated, such as Dubai Police, RTA, Civil Defence, and the Community Development Authority. This collaboration highlighted the initiative’s role in promoting health and social cohesion.

Competitive races added excitement. A 42-kilometre marathon headlined the finale. Victor Kiprono finished first, followed by Godfrey Segule. Rio Watson, from the People of Determination category, secured third place. Organisers also held a women’s race on Emirati Women’s Day in partnership with the Dubai Sports Council.

By the close of August, more than 10 kilometres of indoor track had been laid out across the nine malls. The setup offered inclusive and comfortable conditions, encouraging people of all ages and fitness levels to join. With its record-breaking debut, the Dubai Mallathon now stands as a model for innovative, community-focused fitness worldwide.
